The Poet’s Walk is open year-round Mon.- Fri., 8am – 5pm (until 6pm Mar-Apr. On the banks of the Eno, the Poet’s Walk features a one mile trail,views of the Kirkland Family Cemetary, the Indian Trading Path, and an old tavern foundation.

Poets Walk has picnic tables located amid hardwood and pine forest. These shelters must be reserved for rental fees and availability call the City of Durham Parks and Rec. The small shelter hosts up to 40 people and has a grill and drinking fountain nearby. The large shelter accomodates up to 75 people and features restrooms, a grill and electricity. In addition there are two covered picnic shelters.

Canoeing and kayaking are permitted but sometimes difficult due to shallow water. Backcountry camping at individual sites and group campsites is available but all equipment must be carried in. The park offers nearly 30 miles of trails along a swift, shallow stream that’s popular with anglers, photographers and sightseers.

Cole Mill also has a wheelchair-accessible picnic shelter with eight tables and a grill. The Eno River’s waters roll past mature forests, historic mill and home sites and river bluffs covered with flowering shrubs and across fords used by early settlers. A group picnic area includes three tables and grill.

The Cole Mill picnic area, nestled in a wooded setting, includes 10 tables and four grills with drinking water and restrooms nearby. A 12-table picnic shelter with a fireplace and grill is also accessible and can be reserved for a fee. An accessible water fountain and restrooms are nearby. Few’s Ford has 20 picnic sites, 10 of which are handicapped accessible. One of the picnic grounds is located in the Few’s Ford access area, adjacent to the parking lot.
